Lost and gain

A week and a half to go before the entry for my giveaway will be closed, so make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to win a necklace worth up to $23.

I changed the main font for this blog because I was bored of looking at Arial. Arial is a nice and readable font however it can be pretty boring and dull looking sometimes. I replaced the main font with one from Google Web Fonts. Loving Google Web Fonts at the moment. We don’t have to use regular common web save fonts like Arial, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS and Verdana anymore. What do you think of the font anyways? It is readable? Does it suit the layout?

It’s the summer vacation for many…I’m talking about all those students in the northern hemisphere. I haven’t had a summer vacation for two years now and I’m so jealous of those that do have it.

Summer vacations were one of the best parts of my school life. In the UK we get roughly 5-6 weeks of summer vacation during regular school. Universities normally gave about 12-16 weeks off for the summer. Summer vacation for university students were stupidly long. It felt endless during those weeks. Felt like summer was never going to end. It was an amazing feeling. The bad part was the hardness of starting class again in Sept/Oct.

Although working full time means I don’t have many holidays a year, I now have something I longed for when I was a student. Student study life was difficult. There was always assignments & exams. They seem endless and constantly on the back of one’s mind. Stress seem to be involved pretty often. All nighters came into play regularly too. Working life so far is has none of that! Maybe it’s just my job but work is for the office only. As soon as I walk out of the office in the evening, I don’t have to think about anything related to work. Weekends are total freedom, no more worry about assignments, deadlines or exams.

As a web developer, I do have projects meanings deadlines and expectations. I suppose it’s similar to school assignments. However I have around 5-6hrs during office hours each day to work on it. I can’t leave anything till the last minute since I have nothing else to do at the office but work on my assigned projects. Majority of the times the websites are built way before the deadline.

At the moment working life is pretty relaxing. For those finishing school soon and moving to full time work, you don’t need to worry about stress or too much work. You will have less free time but the free time you get is stress free from work related issues.

Saying that, I do miss vacation. I’ll love to just wake up in the mornings and do whatever I want. To be honest, I just miss bumming around all day.

it must be nice working! I want that lol I think I would want to work then school because like you said school will always be in the back of my mind even when its the weekend because of projects and such. But work…you work and after the end of the day or the weekend..you really don’t have to think about work anymore :)

I disliked the summer vacation when I was a uni student..it was ridiculously long..so I took summer school…but then it was over killed because it only allowed a week of vacation lol

Wow, your work sounds so relaxing and awesome. I know, I’m on my holidays now. I have 6 weeks! I can’t believe Universities have 16 weeks! That’s actually super long, what would you do if your poor like me and can’t afford a super cool holiday? just stay at home and stare at a wall? LOL. xD

Right now, I have literally nothing to do. Except do web related things but then I get a headache so… lol.

The font looks good on the website. I think it suits the theme perfectly. :) I like using Google Web fonts as I don’t have to worry about hosting the font files.

Over here we don’t have summer vacations since well, we’re in the equatorial zone. Seasons like summer, spring, etc practically exist as merely theories here. But because the university’s academic year ends in May and starts again in August, we treat the days in between as our summer holidays. So that means, almost 3 months of holidays. It seems so long and boring but for the students, it means a lot to us. For many students, we can’t really enjoy the holidays since some lecturers would conduct extra classes over the holidays, and some of us would have working attachments (assigned by the university) for weeks/months, and end up leaving us for only one week of vacation. (I really feel sometimes our university is not treating us well).

I’m glad working life is going out just fine for you. No more assignments/exams and other perks of school life to burden you. :)

Yeah I’m quite excited over the trip. I really hope I’ll get to visit the UK this time. The flight is about 17-18 hours long. I’m hoping I won’t suffer from severe jet lags. :)

I didn’t have much work during my summer holidays so I did manage to enjoy them. They were really long and it did get a little boring after a while. I remember I just went to the gym, watch TV, surf the net and play games most days.

17-18 hrs flight! wow that is a long. Just make sure you don’t sleep till it’s night time in France/UK so you’ll fix your jet lag really quickly. It also helps if you’re able to get a little bit of rest on the plane as well.

It was well worth watching the movie.. I don’t know if it was the best one, I definitely love the 1st and 4th because so much happens, as opposed to the 6th, where literally nothing happens until the end. But the 7th movie part 2 was definitely worth going for! I definitely enjoyed it! :)

I really like the new font :) I finally got off my lazy butt and used a proper font on enchantmenot.org, rather than Times New Roman – no idea why I had even put TNR on there to begin with! haha. what’s the name of this font?

I’ve always kinda imagined that’s what working would be like – sure you have more hours, but in most cases you won’t bring the work home with you. Instead, you can just relax, smell some fresh air, etc ;)
