Sushi

Sushi is one of my favourite type of food and I’ve loved it since I was young. Sushi is pretty new and modern in the western world. Off course it has been around the oriental worlds for many many years. Almost every oriental person knows how to make basic sushi rolls.

I bought some last weekend from the supermarket. They weren’t that great, it’s not as fresh as freshy made ones.

As sushi is pretty new to the western world, there are often a lot of misunderstanding. When people hear the word “sushi” they instantly think of raw fish. The term “sushi” does get uninterrupted, and often people think sushi is the Japanese word for raw fish and they don’t realise that it’s a term of a particular type of dish.

Sushi is a Japanese dish consisting of cooked vinegared rice which is commonly topped with other ingredients, such as fish or other seafood, or put into rolls.

from Wikipedia [link]

There are many people that aren’t willing to try sushi because they think it’s raw fish. Off course sushi isn’t raw fish. Raw fish is used in some of the rolls but not always. Other meat or vegetable are often used as well. If you are someone who doesn’t want to try sushi because you believe it’s raw fish then put that idea aside and try it out.

There is Japanese dishes that consist of only raw fish and that’s called “sashimi“.

Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy. It primarily consists of very fresh raw seafood, sliced into thin pieces and served with only a dipping sauce (soy sauce with wasabi paste or other condiments such as grated fresh ginger, or ponzu), depending on the fish, and simple garnishes such as shiso and shredded daikon radish.

from Wikipedia [link]

Sashimi is actually pretty expensive because the fish has to be completely fresh. The raw salmon used in regular sushi isn’t actually fresh. They are generally frozen or smoked before hand to preserve it.

If you don’t like the idea of eating raw fish then make sure you don’t ask for sashimi at a Japanese restaurant.

I hope that people will eventually understand that sushi isn’t raw fish and will not be prejudice against it. I’m a big big fan of sushi so I hope that others will learn to enjoy it too.

Hey Krystal! I’m back!! I’m sorry I let my domain go and didn’t tell you where I was at. But anyway, I’m back so yeah. Thank you for explaining what the term ‘sushi’ is. My dad doesn’t want to try it because he believes it’s raw fish like you’ve stated. Haha. But yeah. I love sushi and Sashimi the most. I eat it whenever I can afford it. And that’s on a rare occasion. BUT I mostly get unagi on rice (aka eel on rice). That’s my favorite Japanese cuisine. Yum. Makes me want some.

Anyway, I might buy one of your necklaces next month if I have any money left over. How much is it in U.S currency? Let me know!

Hooray, another sushi fan! I’ve always loved sushi, and it bothers me when people just assume it’s raw. And then when you tell them it’s not raw, they don’t believe you for some insane reason. Some won’t even get near it because they think it’s contagious or something (???).
I don’t think raw sushi is that bad. It adds extra zing to the flavor. I can see why people are repulsed by the idea, though. I like raw tuna rolls, they’re pretty good. I wouldn’t go and eat all raw sushi for a meal (it would make me queasy), but it’s good to have a few rolls once in a while.

I know right, I love my bb :( And I’m getting a Nikon 5000. It comes with a whole bunch of accessories this time (and I didnt even have a bag for my old one before), so I’m super excited! Waiting for the shipment to arrive is such a torture though haha.
I was considering buying a Canon, but I dunno…Nikon seemed to be a popular choice with the photography blogs I follow.
You should put up some of the pictures you take! :)

ooo sushi. I’ve never been brave enough to try it lol. Maybe I should create a life-list “Things to do” ahah

You should give it a try. There’s nothing scary about it. Just some rice and meat/veggie. Make sure you don’t get the raw fish ones if you’re a little worried, just ask the people at the restaurant if you’re unsure.

Nikons are the best! Don’t get the Nikon D5000. It’s a huge waste of money. If I were you, I’d get the Nikon D90 which is a significantly better camera. Trust me on this.

If you need more proooof, I’d be glad to actually help you find articles. Plus I have a bunch of friends that have the D90 & one had a Nikon D5000 & switched to the D90 because the D5000 is inferior. :P

TRY SUSHI. Just get the cooked stuff like California rolls. Even the spicy tuna rolls which are raw, don’t even taste raw. Or you could start off easy with cucumber rolls or avocado rolls. :)

Nyum nyum! I’m a big fan of sushi too! But you probably know that already :)

Yeah, a lot of people have this misconception of what sushi is. It does happen within my family as well. Everytime I mention the word ‘sushi’ to my aunts, they would cringe and say, “I’m not eating raw fish.” No matter how I try to convince them that sushi is not all about raw fish, they wouldn’t listen to me. It’s annoying, really. :/

Ahh don’t take your man for granted, Krystal! I don’t get half of that romance so seriously, suck it up & appreciate it woman!! Be glad you actually get some romance because I certainly don’t. :/

& to answer your question, no, I am not going to start making comedy videos. :P They’re just ridiculously time consuming & I don’t have that much material anyway ahahahhaha. I just made that one since my blog was a bit long so I wanted to make it easier for people by just making a video so people wouldn’t have to read it.

I’M SO SURPRISED THAT YOUR PICTURES LOADED FOR ME..well your jewelry didn’t, but that’s because my internet sucks. So anyway,..I love sushi!

It’s not exactly “new” around where I live since the Japanese have been around the US for quite some time. Well if you call like 60-70 years new, then sure, it’s new. hahaha.

Ooh I have to tell you that using the term “oriental” to describe a person of Asian descent is actually offensive. You use oriental to describe things like carpets, rugs, or dressing, not so much a race. Hay you should know this woman, you’re Asian! :P

I get super annoyed whenever I tell people how much I love sushi & they always say that they don’t eat raw fish. The term is pretty misinterpreted with a lot of caucasians ahahha sadly…but not so much anymore since it’s super trendy to be eating sushi in California. :P

I love raw fish, regardless! :D I love sashimi although it’s incredibly expensive so I don’t order it, but I do order sushi. There is a difference between “rolls” & “sushi” since rolls refer to the rolls & sushi refers to the two pieces of fish on rice, but hey whatever, people mix it up & as long as you get your order right, whatever. hahaa. It’s too bad your sushi wasn’t that great.

I make sushi at home a lot of the time when I go to my Japanese supermarket. :D I hate using soy sauce as my dipping sauce, especially with the rolls that are already drenched in eel sauce. It confuses the crap out of me when people dip it into soy sauce. I’m sitting there thinking, “……do you want hypertension or something? That’s so salty…”

But when I order sushi as in the pieces of raw fish on top of rice, I always dip it in eel sauce because it’s more flavorful than soy sauce. Plus, I’m not a fan of plain soy sauce anywayy. :P

yummy sushi. my hubbie loves sushi more than I do. I mean, I’ll eat all the “cooked” ones but I’m not a fan of “raw” stuff. I don’t know, my tongue never liked the texture. And living in Hawaii, you’d figure I’d have gotten use to it. But nope, born and raised here, and still don’t fancy it :(

I love both sushi and sashimi! :D They are delicious and most of the time I buy it fresh, from the food court. I love the variety of sushi. It’s just lovely!

I have made my own sushi as well. They haven’t been in the greatest shape though. :P

My mum doesn’t like sushi. I asked her why and she said it just has that fishy smell, and she doesn’t like the seaweed. It is a common misconception that sushi contains raw fish. It doesn’t most of the time and people should get that straight. I guess they just get a little confused. I thought my mum was the same, but it turns out she just detests the seaweed itself. :( I love the seaweed and I could just eat sheets of it… yes, I love it that much. XD

I love Japanese food. My favorite is California Maki or California Roll because it tastes delicious. In some countries, their California Rolls have avocado in it, but here in the Philippines, it has mango instead of avocado. I don’t like sashimi though coz it tastes ewwwww, well for me. I can’t stand its taste and the “feel” of it inside my mouth.

BTW, did you get your new DSLR already? What brand and model did you buy?

Hey! :) I am not a big fan of sushi, so I barely eat it. If I do have to eat Japanese food, I would order the bento boxes or whatever it is called. There’s only two kind of sushi I’ll eat as well and they are California Roll and the soft shell crab one. :)

Hey! We’re both not a big fan of sushi! :)

Whenever I see pictures of sushi, I get hungry and would want to eat it. But when I actually have the dish, I always find it bland for my taste. O_O

I’ve tried some Korean foods too, but nothing seemed to beat my love for Italian foods. XD

I used to think that sushi is raw fish too. That’s why I never eat it when I was still young. Haha.

I converted most of my friends to this delicacy and every time we go out it’s to a Japanese restaurant. I can’t understand people who don’t like it. For me it sounds like a blasphemy! >_< They are so yummy especially when they are well made & using fresh yummy fish ….
