The Apprentice: Week 9

This post is all about the UK TV series “The Apprentice“. If you have never seen it before, then you’ll have no idea what I’m going to talk about. You can find some information on what the programme is all about on their website. There is also an USA version which was where it orginated.

Please do not continue to read this post if you haven’t already seen this week’s epsiode.

Quick Summary

This week the teams had to sell baby items in the country’s biggest baby show. They had to visit suppliers and then decide on two products to sell the next day. Both teams decided on two different things.

Ben, Debra, Yazmina and James were in one team, where they chose to sell an extremely expensive rocking horse and a home birth tub. The decision on the rocking horse (£1700-£4000) was Debra and Ben’s idea, where Debra insisted that it was the best product to sell. James and Yazmina decided on the birth tub (about £70). Kate, Lorraine and Howard were together in the other team. They chose a buggie (£135) and a soft baby head protection helmet (about £16).

James’s team put all their hopes on selling the rocking horse (£1700-£4000). Selling one or two will allow them to win as the other team chosen cheaper products (a buggie – £135 and a baby head protector – £16). However they sold no horses and sold only a few of those birth tubs (about 2% of women will choose to give birth at home). The other team focused on the buggie and sold many, resulting in a double earning compare to the other team.

What I thought of this week

I thought James’s team choose the wrong items. It was a good chose to go for the rocking horse, but only if one of them sold. They were completely counting on a rich couple to come along and buy one, however most mums and dads there were probably only interested in actual baby products. The home birth tub was completely pointless as most people won’t want to give birth at home. They should have chosen a more popular item like the buggie to be on the safe side that it will sell.

Lorraine’s team went for the buggie which was a safe route as the majority there will be interested in one. The baby head protector wasn’t a bad idea and was a cheap item that mums probably won’t mind spending on their child. Good choice of items however Lorraine didn’t check to see if that buggie will be exclusive to the show. They later discovered that a stand very near theirs was selling that exact same buggie for a cheaper price. Nethertheless, they won as the other team sold very very little.

So who left?

Ben left, which I was happy about but I rather have Debra leave instead. I didn’t think Ben will get very far as Sir Alan Sugar really doesn’t like him and he wasn’t very good  at convincing Sir Alan that he should stay. Debra is so annoying but she is extremely determined which is a very good quality. Sir Alan seems to see something in her but I really hope she doesn’t stay much longer.
